19th and Wonder Media Network (WMN) are pleased to announce a new weekly podcast amendment. The debut audio series on the 19th will be premiered on February 14, 2024. The constitutional amendment, moderated by award-winning journalist and 19th Editor-in-Chief Erin Haynes, will go beyond pundits and give a voice to new voters, especially marginalized people. They depend on a functioning democracy.
Each episode will feature a conversation between Haines and a prominent guest, discussing the current state of American democracy and power structures through the lens of race and gender. The first episode features the 1619 Project's Nicole Hannah-Jones and writer Tressie McMillan Cottom.
This amendment captures a little-known part of American history and will be an important extension of the 19th's efforts. “Every Day on the 19th aims to explore the unfinished business of our democracy. We want to center and empower women and LGBTQ+ Americans, especially those who are underrepresented in politics.” “We believe that,” said Julia B. Chan, editor-in-chief of The 19th. “In a critical election year, this mission is more important than ever.”

Haynes ends each episode with an asterisk. She takes a few minutes to recognize specific instances where gender and racial aspects are ignored. The asterisk on Wednesday's logo indicates that work is still unfinished on the amendment of the same name, which would have granted women the right to vote, something often denied to women of color.
This amendment joins WMN's more than a dozen original programs dedicated to elevating underrepresented voices. WMN's podcasts (including her award-winning Womanica, Teaching Texas, and I Was Never There) challenge existing power structures and underrepresented core voices. “WMN is excited to partner with The 19th, another woman-founded, mission-driven company,” said Jenny Kaplan, CEO of Wonder Media Network. “This program is a natural extension of our existing portfolio and provides important perspectives that will shape our political coverage this election cycle.”
The 19th News will begin the first-ever live recording of The Amendment on the podcast stage at SXSW EDU on the morning of March 7th. The 2024 SXSW EDU Podcast Stage, hosted by the GitLab Foundation, brings together 14 leading podcasts at the crossroads of culture. We cover issues ranging from technology trends to the future of leadership to the impact of politics on learning.
