After the NBA All-Star break, the Dallas Mavericks are now 33-23 after defeating the Phoenix Suns 123-113 last night.
This is the fourth game Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington have played since being acquired by the Mavs, and both players continue to prove they are the best fit next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Their defense and rebounding have not gone unnoticed, and Washington is turning into the defensive stopper for Dallas that they so desperately needed.
The Mavs are in a great spot and have been able to get rid of some bad contracts over the past few months, but there are still a few contracts they could be looking to move on this summer. This roster looks ready to compete right now, but things could change quickly.
Here are three contracts the Dallas Mavericks could drop this summer.
Before trading for Daniel Gafford, the Dallas Mavericks relied heavily on Dwight Powell. He played every night and even started eight games.
Powell has barely played since the trade, and his $4 million annual salary from the contract he signed last summer isn't ideal for a third-string center. He hasn't played his best this season either, and that kind of money isn't ideal for a player who isn't part of the rotation.
$4 million a year for the next few years isn't terrible, but it's not great either. The Mavs currently have a dynamic center duo in Gafford and Derek Lively II, so his services aren't needed as much. Powell started over 250 games for the Mavs during his career and will be greatly missed, but his play has decreased.
Powell is still a great leader and always brings a great vibe, but he could be someone Dallas looks to move on if they look to free up money this summer.
