Derrick Jones Jr. of the Dallas Mavericks was on fire heading into the season. He shot 40 percent from 3-point range, easily reached the Cup, and played defense at a high level.
Jones Jr. is the Mavs' best perimeter defender, and his 3-point shooting has improved significantly by playing next to Luka Doncic. He had the most open look of his career and was flying with his confidence. Dallas is the first team to show so much confidence in Jones Jr. as a shooter, but his numbers have shown up in recent months.
Jones Jr.'s average shooting ability combined with Washington's addition could ease his role. We've already seen his role shrink since Washington was traded here, as he's no longer a starter and only played 12 minutes against the Washington Wizards.
Jones Jr. likely won't play much on Washington's roster, but he will likely continue to be called up due to his defensive ability.
