To understand what women face in the world, men need to walk in women's shoes. On Wednesday, October 11th, University of North Texas at Dallasyou will literally have the opportunity to do just that.
UNT Dallas is hosting a “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event to help people take a stand against sexual violence. It will be held on the university campus at 7300 University Hills Blvd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In Dallas. The public can participate in the free event with no registration required.
The event involves men walking one mile around campus wearing high heels provided by the university. UNT Dallas Counseling & Wellness Center. The event begins in front of the UNT Dallas Student Center.
Since 2001, men, women and families around the world have enjoyed the award-winningWalk a Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault, and Gender Violence.” To raise awareness about the causes, effects and remedies of male sexual violence.
UNT Dallas will host the event in collaboration with community partners. Participants are encouraged to bring their own heels if they wish. Those heels can be donated later. Genesis Women's Shelter & Supportis a local Dallas agency dedicated to ending domestic violence and supporting survivors and their children.
An event will be held to commemorate October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To raise awareness, UNT Dalsa will offer her Q&A sessions to the public on domestic violence statistics and the dynamics of abuse, and will provide university and community resources from partner organizations including: Door of hope, new beginning, Genesis Women's Shelter & Support, The Family Place, UNT Dallas Office of Community Standardsmore.
UNT Dallas expects dozens of students, faculty, staff and local men to take on the 5,280-foot challenge, including UNT Dallas President bob mon.
“Due to the prevalence of domestic violence in our communities and across our nation, we are proactive in ending domestic violence through awareness, intervention, support services, and providing students with access to community resources.” It’s more important than ever to get involved and participate,” Espino said. said in a statement. “By participating in Walk A Mile in Her Shoes and bringing it to our campus, we are doing our part in this important and life-saving effort.”
“UNT Dallas has lost students to family and domestic violence,” Espino added. “And current national statistics show that many other students are suffering in silence. We must be involved in saving lives.”
Sexual violence is any act of physical or psychological violence directed at sexuality or gender and used to undermine a person's sexual or gender integrity, the university notes. Violence is a deadly virus that lurks in everyday cultural beliefs, attitudes, and practices, and while it remains hidden, it is immune to prevention, treatment, and healing.”
The university added: “Anyone can be a victim of sexual violence, regardless of gender identity.” Sexual violence devalues women, women's habits, feminine ways of thinking, feeling and being, feminine energy, and feminine expression. The object of sexual violence can be the body of a woman, the body of a woman or someone who presents as a woman, or the body of someone who is a man or who does not fully display his masculinity.
