Police said the incident happened around 1 p.m. on Ancestry Court near Legacy Drive and Old Seagoville Road, across from Grady Spruce High School.
DALLAS – A 15-year-old girl was shot in the leg near a Dallas high school Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay, a police officer told WFAA at the scene.
Police said the incident happened around 1 p.m. on Legacy Drive between Ancestry Court and Old Seagoville Road, across from Grady Spruce High School in southeast Dallas. This area is near South Masters Drive and US 175.
Dallas ISD officials confirmed the boy who was shot was a student at Spruce High School. Her name has not been released. No other injuries were reported.
Police said multiple people were in the vehicle as it drove by the area and shots were fired. According to police, one shell casing from a .22 caliber gun was found. Police said a witness saw the incident and called police.
Police were able to locate the vehicle allegedly involved in the shooting on Masters Drive near Route 175. Police said the people in the car were taken into custody and all are believed to be teenagers, but no further information was released.
Helicopter footage from the scene showed Dallas police stationed near the school and several Dallas ISD police vehicles parked in front of the school.
Officials at A+ Academy Middle School, located across the street from Spruce City, said Wednesday afternoon that the school's campus was in a “safe/soft lockdown” as a precaution.
School security guards were monitoring the main gate during the incident.
