While hosting Saturday Night Live on February 3, Ayo Edebiri admitted that he had joked in the past about Jennifer Lopez, who served as the episode's musical guest.
In a game show skit where Kenan Thompson forced contestants to consider their disrespectful presence on social media, Edebiri gave a nod to a comment that recently resurfaced, saying: got it. It's wrong to leave mean comments, post comments just for influence, and rant on podcasts, and it's wrong to not consider the repercussions because you're 24 and stupid. But I think I speak for everyone when I say that from now on, I will be more careful about what I post online. ”
Edebiri was featured on an episode of Goddess of Deception in 2020, where host Lacey Mosley said that Lopez's “whole career has been a long con” and that she was unaware of people's criticism of Lopez.
Edebiri replied: “Well, that's the thing — she thinks she's on multiple tracks, but that's not who she is. She thinks she's still okay even though she doesn't sing on most of the songs. I think you are thinking that.”
“A lot of the songs will be about, 'J.Lo didn't have time to go to the studio,'” she continued. “It's like, 'J. Lo has been busy.' What are you doing? Of course I'm not singing.”
Lopez did not appear in any sketches during the episode, but was seen standing alongside Edebiri in the promo released prior to the episode. “I love your show,” Lopez chimed in, to which Edebiri responded, “I love everything about you.”
