The Dallas Office of Homelessness Control announced that the Real Time Rehousing Initiative (RTR), launched in October 2021 as the Dallas Real Time Rapid Rehousing Initiative (DRTRR), will rehouse 2,700 people. Together with our partners, we are pleased to announce that we have reached a milestone. Unprotected neighbors. The initiative, now known as RTR, is housing more people than ever before, with a new goal of housing a total of 6,000 people by the end of 2025. These achievements were made possible through collaboration between public and private partners. It helped us reduce inefficiencies and overcome challenges faster.
As a result of this program, the number of homeless people in Dallas-area neighborhoods has decreased, positively impacting the amount of federal funding allocated to the region to continue and grow similar initiatives. Chronic homelessness and unsheltered homelessness decreased by 32% and 14%, respectively, in the first year of the program.
“The REAL Time Rehousing Initiative has given us a tremendous opportunity to reduce homelessness in our community, and it is producing results. We will continue to invest in and support these initiatives,” said Dallas City Manager TC Broadnax.
The latest impact of this strategy is expected to be released during the next point-in-time (PIT) count in January 2024. All Neighbors Coalition received an additional $36.4 million in new government funding over the past year. This will increase the organization's annual funding by 70% going forward. That's why the City of Dallas, Housing Forward, and All Neighbors Coalition plan to continue their rapid rehousing efforts, with the next goal of 6,000 people by 2025.
