Veterans Day, celebrated annually on November 11, is a day to honor and thank those who have served in the U.S. military. Thursday's parade in Dallas was canceled due to weather concerns, but other parades, festivals, flyovers and flag-wavers are planned throughout North Texas on Friday and this weekend to commemorate the holiday. plano honor flag
free The Plano East Rotary Club celebrates Veterans Day by flying more than 1,000 American flags each year to honor veterans or first responders. The public can walk through the flag-lined field during the day, take photos and look back. Additionally, entertainment and learning activities are planned. Patriotic music will be performed on Nov. 11 by the Salvation Army Band, Plano Children's Choir and Plano Civic Choir. Service dogs in Patriot Paws will be on site, and there will be JROTC training, a flag retirement ceremony, and a gun salute at dusk.

North Richland Hills Veterans Day
free NRH police and fire honor guards will display colors before a wreath-laying ceremony, patriotic music and readings in front of City Hall. Photos of area residents who have served or currently serve in the military will be displayed on the Wall of Honor inside City Hall. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be held inside City Hall.

America's Heroes: Salute to Veterans and First Responders
free The Colony's two-day Veterans Day festival includes a carnival, live bands, car show, silent auction, children's activities, vendor exhibit and more. On Nov. 10, first responders will be recognized at 8 p.m., and a patriotic drone show will conclude at 10 p.m. On Nov. 11, Veterans Day ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. and a fireworks display will conclude the festivities at 8 p.m. Lawn seating will be open for concerts and guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. CAF Aviation Discovery Fest
The three-day festival, hosted by the Commemorative Air Force, is a learning experience for children and families. World War II-era warbirds, some available for private rides, reenactments and interactive exhibits, bring the wartime experience to life for guests of all ages. World War II and other veterans will be on-site to share their stories and interact with attendees. Kids can ride in half-his trucks and other military transport vehicles and participate in hands-on activities at the Henry B. Tippee National Aviation Education Center's Aviation Discovery Zone. Guests can climb into the cockpit of his C-47, like the one that led the Allied air invasion on D-Day.

Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery
free Retired U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Craig Timberlake will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony. The Midlothian High School Choir will perform and the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base Color Guard will display their colors. There will be a high-flying flight and a rifle salute. Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade
free Military units and high school bands march in the Tarrant County Veterans Council's annual Veterans Day Parade. This year's parade theme is “Salute to the TCU Warriors,” which celebrates Texas Christian University's military legacy during its 150th anniversary. The parade will also honor Maj. Horace S. Carswell Jr., his 1939 TCU graduate and Medal of Honor recipient. The parade will depart from the Panther Island Pavilion parking lot, travel along the Clear Fork of the Trinity River and down North Forest Park Boulevard before returning to its original location. That starting point. Retired Army Col. Joseph Campbell, a member of the TCU Military Science Hall of Fame, will serve as parade marshal.
