Kyrie Irving scored 34 points and Luka Doncic scored 27 before leaving the game early in the fourth period, and the Dallas Mavericks overcame an early 15-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 116-93 on Wednesday night. Broke it.
Doncic left the game three minutes into the fourth quarter after holding his neck. A team spokesperson said Doncic, who also had nine rebounds and eight assists in 31 minutes, received treatment.
The game was the last game for both teams before the NBA All-Star hiatus, with the Mavericks winning a season-high six straight games and the Spurs losing for the eighth time in nine games.
Spurs rookie Victor Wembaneyama scored 26 points (20 points in the first half) and nine rebounds in his belated Dallas debut. During his first visit to the American Airlines Center with the Spurs in late December, he stepped on a ball boy's foot during warm-ups and sprained his ankle, sustaining a serious injury.
Dallas outscored San Antonio 15-1 and led 56-51 at halftime before going on a 26-7 run to begin the third quarter. The Mavericks led by 29 points.
Derek Lively II returned to Dallas' lineup and donned a protective mask after missing seven games with a broken nose. With limited time off the bench, Lively had eight points and five rebounds in 17 minutes.
