Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison recently joined Hardline on Sports Radio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM) We discuss things like the national perception of the team and his reaction to Mark Cuban selling a majority stake in the team.
Here are some highlights of Harrison's appearance, edited for clarity.
How do you think this team is being covered nationally, and how do you ignore it? That's the main question, right?
Nico Harrison: “That was a leading question. I would have answered it differently, but you guided me. I'm thinking of two things. One, we I think that team probably doesn't get the respect it deserves, but we also haven't played that well. So maybe we didn't deserve it. Also, Luka… I think it's like when you have a young, talented superstar in the [Doncic], he'll get a little more — which means if you look at the MVP voting, he should be near the top. Part of that is when you look at the players he's being compared to, they're on winning teams. We are winning, but we struggled in the first half of the season. I had a lot of injuries, so I think that was the main reason why I struggled.
“We're finally getting healthy, so once we get through the second half of the season and get healthy and really start racking up wins, I think you'll see our perception change. Covering our team As for people, once you win, even locally, their perspective changes. Everything becomes positive. So I think winning will solve everything and it's really up to us if we can do that. It depends.”
What did you think when you heard the news? mark cuban sale How much interaction did you have with the Adelson family?
Harrison: “I was a little shocked at first because I knew Mark Cuban as a Mavericks player. That's my introduction to Cuba. So it was kind of a shock. Getting to know the new governor Patrick Dumont and the Adelson family. He's a great guy. He wants to win, he's a big personality. He runs a Fortune 100 company with 35,000 employees. In addition to winning, he talks about leadership. , about excellence, character, and doing things the right way, is just the right fit for me. So it was very inspiring to be around him and talk to him. I'm excited about this opportunity. Masu.”
