Scripted podcast “The Very Worst Thing That Could Possibibly Happen,” unscripted series “Dear Alana,” and hip-hop origins retrospective are nominees for the 4th annual Ambies Podcast Awards, administered by the Podcast Academy It's at the top of the list.
“The Very Worst Thing,” a psychological and supernatural drama produced by creative studio Wolf at the Door, received the most bids of all the shows, selling with five. Tenderfoot TV's “Dear Alana,” her searing 16-episode series that explores the notes of a young woman who committed suicide after undergoing brutal conversion therapy, was her second with four.
Six different titles garnered three nominations, including “Can You Dig It?: A Hip-Hop Origin Story with Chuck D” and the true crime piece “Exused: Cover-Up at Columbia University.” An additional 16 films received two nominations, including “Who Killed JFK?” From “Slow Burn: How I Became Justice Thomas” to “50 Years of Hip Hop” to “The Cast of The Cat in the Hat.”
The 10 nominees for Podcast of the Year are based on how the audio entertainment sector is experiencing rapid growth in the amount of content it produces and demand from listeners who are spending more time listening to entertainment and news than watching. It shows the breadth of audio storytelling. Unscripted content via podcasts and audiobooks.
Potential podcast hosts include Anderson Cooper, Malcolm Gladwell, and Rachel Maddow. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was nominated for Best Interview Series for her acclaimed “Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.” Carey Mulligan, Maya Hawke, and Rose Leslie compete for audiofiction performance. NFL stars Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce were named to the list of Best Sports Podcast nominees for “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.”
Overall, this year's Ambies category includes 192 nominations across 27 categories. Winners will be presented at a ceremony held at his JW Marriott LA Live Los Angeles on March 26th.
Donald Albright, president of the Podcast Academy and CEO and co-founder of Atlanta-based Tenderfoot TV, described the field of nominees as “taking the art of podcasting to new heights” and “audio storytelling.” He praised the program as one that “embodies the essence of excellence in telling.” ”
