As we enter Lent, the Jesuits speak of Exodus 90. This is his 90-day ascetic spiritual practice for men centered around his three pillars: prayer, fasting, and fraternity. Villanova University Honors Program and College of Humanities Assistant Professor Terrence Sweeney joins Zach and Ashley to discuss this highly popular program. We talk about why people love it, what gets left behind, and what Catholics who don't attend can learn from it. .
They discuss:
- The absence of a communal Lenten observance in the church today and how Exodus 90 attempts to fill that void.
- Exodus: The shortcomings of the 1990s and the dangers of spiritual meritocracy in training
- What all Catholics can gain from Exodus 90 this Lent
This week on Sign of the Times, Zach and Ashley are joined by Christine Lenahan, one of America's O'Hare Fellows. They discuss controversial depictions of Christ, from the Super Bowl ad “He Gets Us” to the new painting of Jesus that caused an uproar in Seville, Spain.
The Society of Jesus will begin operations in 2024. Please join us. If you would like Zach and Ashley to come to your city, please email them at jesuitical@americamedia.org.
