If you're a high school student or the parent of a high school student, you're probably familiar with the acronym FAFSA. In 2024, the federal government changed the way and format in which grants are determined for students entering university. And it caused confusion.
So we called Dr. Sanjay Rai, Maryland's acting secretary of higher education, to find out what Maryland plans to do for the 63,000 students who may graduate this year. Dr. Lai will discuss how the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) can assist students and many others pursuing a variety of post-secondary study options.
But for more on the FAFSA and the new Maryland One-App, let's talk to Al Dorsett, director of the Office of Student Financial Aid. flow). Al explains deadlines, changes, and important steps students should take to ensure they receive as much aid as possible for their education. After all, college tuition never gets cheaper. And MHEC has a lot of money, at least $130 million a year.
A must-listen for high school and junior high school students and their parents!
