Hello everyone! Today we continue our celebration of Black History Month here on the Art of Kindness podcast by discussing life-changing initiatives.
I was reading… Caste: the origins of our discontent Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Isabel Wilkerson.
I have to tell you all. And no, they didn't pay me to say this. Run, walk, crawl, do whatever you can to get this book. I think it's a bridge that connects us all as humans. This is one of his most skillfully written books ever published.
I mean, I don't have any data on that, but I do know that it broke the record of staying at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. I am halfway through this book and am overwhelmed with each page. I start my day every morning by reading Caste. This is a difficult book to read, but a very important one.
But don't take that away from me. Oprah Winfrey put it perfectly when she called this book “mankind's must-read.”
The reason I'm suddenly waking up now to this book that once again broke records during the shutdown of 2020 is because this wonderful film adaptation has now only brought this book to life, and how Isabel Wilkerson… And it shows you why you were called. To write it.
Acclaimed filmmaker Ava DuVernay has written and produced movies that people said were impossible. A lot of people said that it was really impossible to make the book 'Caste' into a movie.
But you know that's all you need to tell someone to ignite a fire inside of you. Thank the movie gods that Eva was able to collaborate with Isabella and learn about her life and that she was able to create this amazing movie.
Origin reminded me of the real purpose of movies – move we. So, whether you choose to buy the book or watch the movie, whichever comes first, please give this work a try.
The movie “Origin'' is currently in theaters. In my opinion, this word didn't get the attention it deserved during word season. I want to give an Oscar right now to Aounjanou Ellis Taylor, especially for her talent as Isabel. I mean, I don't have one…but still hehe…she's amazing.
I'd like to talk to her someday. She was shocked by her performance. I was really moved by everyone. Everyone in this movie is a great storyteller. So, after today's conversation, or before that, pause now and watch the movie first. Please go see this movie.
And I have to thank today's guest for bringing this movie back to my attention. The film was not given a huge budget for billboards or a large advertising campaign.
So today's guest was suggested to me by a great team that I have worked with in the past. And because of him, my life has changed. This movie and this book continue to change the way I think about the world.
So I'd like to introduce today's guest, Isha Blacker.
Isha Braker is an actor and model who grew up in the Netherlands. He entered the entertainment industry as a model and appeared in campaigns for major international luxury brands such as Hugo Boss, L'Oreal, Ralph Lauren, Estee Lauder, just to name a few. As he became known in the fashion world, he developed a love for another art form: acting.
After leaving his mark on the screen, fear the walking dead and tyler perry's Madea's homecomingIsha booked a very important movie that I want to spotlight here today, Ava DuVernay's movie. origin.
Isha plays real-life pioneering anthropologist Dr. Alison Davis in the epic drama that explores the concept of caste in America. His character, along with his wife, played by Jasmine Cephas Jones, embarks on a groundbreaking journey from the segregated American South to Nazi-era Berlin.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to discuss this film with him. It was a difficult conversation, not only because of the content, but also because the internet wasn't on my side that day, and I ended up getting logged out of the recording room multiple times. Thankfully, Isha held out.
So without further ado, enjoy Isha Blaaker…
