Dallas ISD buses will be upgraded for the 2023-2034 school year to improve safety for all students and drivers. More than 900 buses are now equipped with tablets using an app known as 'Edulog'. Through this app, bus drivers can enter security check information and receive updates and messages from the service center.
“One of our safety features is that drivers are required to do a pre-trip inspection. Most CDL drivers do this, even if they are truck or bus drivers. The vehicle must be inspected before the event,” said Jaime Sandoval, executive director of Student Transportation Services. “With the tablet, drivers can take photos of each section and tick them off as they drive. If the service center needs to send a message, they can send a message to the tablet. New Driver Or if you're a substitute driver, you'll get turn-by-turn directions. You'll be able to see it as if you had Google Maps.”
Edulog has a built-in telematics system known as Samsara that can track mileage, speed, fuel economy, and more. It's also a real-time GPS navigator with routing features like smart map overlays that monitor traffic, weather, aerial imagery, and geofences. “I think the best part of this is the overall analysis,” Sandoval said. “We're going to have more data than we've ever been able to really analyze. Fuel economy is one of the data points. We want to know how much fuel we're using. , shows how efficient our buses are, right down to the miles per gallon.”
Parents can download Edulog to see their student's bus route and current location. Other features include the ability to receive push notifications with information about delays, route changes, and arrival times.
“Parents can use the app to see exactly where their bus is in real time, and so can the principal. What's great is that you can search in the system and text the live location, and it pops up right away. “And it shows you the exact location of the bus. That's really great,” Sandoval said.
By January, the transit agency plans to introduce scanner cards for students so boarding and alighting records will be stored digitally rather than handwritten as in the current system.
