Independent podcast network Realm has appointed Peter Levin as an advisor as it moves into the gaming space.
Levin currently serves as Managing Director and Co-Founder of Griffin Gaming Partners. With his experience as former president of Lionsgate Interactive's Ventures, Games, and Digital Strategy, and co-founder and CEO of Nerdist Industries, Levin is positioned to bridge the gap between gaming and podcasting.
Realm works with major entertainment brands such as Warner Bros., Netflix, and Marvel to adapt their IP into podcasts. Award-winning film adaptations include Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind and Orphan Black: The Next Chapter. In addition to working with globally recognized IP, Realm also has experience building large audiences. Realm's originals have been translated into his 12 languages and reach listeners in his 200+ markets around the world.
Transmedialization of games is steadily increasing. Last year saw game film and television adaptations hit new highs in both commercial and critical success, with hits like Super Mario Bros. and The Last of Us. However, podcast adaptations are less common. Ubisoft has produced original programming based on the Assassin's Creed and Far Cry franchises. Realm got off to an early start with video game-inspired shows like Ctrl-Alt-Destroy.

“We are honored to have Peter involved with Realm. He is an extraordinary talent and has a keen understanding of what it takes to create new fan-favorite properties and experiences. He and I both work closely with entertainment companies. We feel that podcasts will play an increasingly important role in expanding the touchpoints between fans and fans,” said Molly Barton, CEO and co-founder of Realm.
Bring your gaming IP into podcasting
Before Levin came on board, Realm announced a multi-year partnership with IGN. Realm and IGN will work together to develop, produce, distribute and monetize podcast titles based on leading video game IP. The first show under the deal is an adaptation of Squanch Games' High on Life.
“I’m excited to join Molly and the team at Realm as we come full circle to our podcasting roots. Podcasting has become a ‘must have’ in a hub-and-spoke model that creates lasting brand value. As Realm continues to expand and explore their gaming IP, we are ideally positioned to power and contribute to their efforts,” said Levin.
In addition to his experience investing in gaming founders, Levin has worked on numerous gamifications. Those properties include Amazon Studio's upcoming Fallout series, Lionsgate's upcoming Borderlands movie, and his animated television adaptation of Candy Crush for CBS.
Levin joins several other media executives on Realm's board of directors. This includes Michael Smith, chief marketing officer of NPR, Russell Binder, president of IP accelerator Stryker Entertainment, and Marcy, award-winning producer and former co-president of Blumhouse TV.・Includes Wiseman. Notably, Binder and Blumhouse TV led the film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's.
