Businesses, research institutes, academic institutions including higher education universities, and third sector organizations of all sizes were invited to apply for this funding.
The investment was directed towards activities that help deliver the mission set out in the Welsh Government’s innovation strategy Wales Innovates, and support has since been provided to projects across Wales, covering all sectors of the economy.
Among them is Coleg Y Cymoedd from Nantgarh, who plans to use the funding for a new center for digital innovation, sustainability, entrepreneurship and knowledge exchange.
Meanwhile, the Welsh Blood Service will receive equipment support to study and improve manufacturing and storage conditions that affect the quality of blood components, leading to improved care for patients receiving blood transfusions.
Economy Minister Vaughan Gething said:
“Innovation is a tool with the potential to enrich our education, economy, health and well-being, and environment.
“I recently made strengthening our economy a priority and I want to strengthen Wales’ innovation and digital capabilities, including rapidly evolving new technologies.
“We want to create and foster a vibrant culture of innovation for a stronger, fairer and greener Wales, so we are delighted to support these projects. I believe that this will drive change.”
In a cross-government approach, grants were awarded from both the economy and climate change portfolios, with projects supporting Wales' move towards a circular, net-zero carbon economy also being recognized.
Warne Hurog Farm in Powys has received support for its work in the River Wye catchment. By using black soldier fly larvae to feed on waste in a controlled environment, breaking it down and reducing its volume by up to 70%, we aim to develop more sustainable poultry farming.
Climate Change Minister Julie James said:
“This is a great example of how our circular economy strategy, innovation beyond recycling strategy and Wales Innovations are working together.
“Transitioning to a circular economy in Wales is about increasing the use of recycled and reused content in products and components, extending the lifespan of products and materials, and is part of the action needed on climate change. is an important part of
