Since 1952, WGTE has educated generations of learners. What started as a French lesson in a local Toledo classroom has continued to evolve into an engaging program for the whole family. Through television, radio and community outreach, WGTE speaks to people who are passionate about learning, enriching lives and improving the Northwest Ohio/Southern Michigan region.
WGTE believes everyone has a story to tell. Our recent Voices Around Us podcast project helps amplify these voices and share diverse stories and backgrounds across our community. Voices Around Us is supported in part by the City of Toledo, the Lucas County Commission, and the Greater Toledo Arts Commission.
Currently, nine different podcasts within the project cover a variety of topics, from social issues and health to art and agriculture. However, the series will continue to grow and expand as new ideas are submitted.
1 podcast in the series, The soul of the glass city, highlighting the greatness of northwest Ohio. Host Monique Ward takes listeners deep into the lives, businesses, and experiences of locals who inspire the soul of Toledo every day.
Another podcast within the Voices Around Us project, lake effect, takes a different local perspective through the Great Lakes, and more specifically Lake Erie. Host James Proffitt highlights his love of local Lake Erie through scientists, sea captains, farmers, historians and more.
In terms of art, Proud to be rust and glass Join Curtis Dieter as we highlight his journey to making art in the Midwest. Whether through fiction, painting, or other mediums, Dieter aims to show a more human side to the creative process, uplift local creators, and invite guests to share their stories.
On a more medical note, local psychiatrist Dr. Rajiv Parinja from Mercy Health takes listeners deep into the brain, one nervous system at a time. brain politics.
