“I can't believe she's gone,” Morphine tearfully admitted in a confessional. This is one of the first words viewers hear in this episode, and the theatricality of another contestant returning home, and the weight that weighs on the queen who sent her home, becomes more apparent each week. It is becoming. Drag Race is the real reason we keep watching, even though there are currently 400 different versions of him released around the world. A quick couch discussion about the current standings and the future of the season leads to the realization that, at least for Dawn, every week counts now. When the competition narrows down to the top eight, everyone remaining is performing fairly well.
The mini-challenge sees the queens doing a quick drag and everyone spitting. “Nymphea, welcome to the comedic style of her wind,” Lou muses as the Queen walks over and does her comedic style, which made me laugh harder than at any point in Nymphea's Snatch Her game. Her Dawn spit looked like someone punched her in the stomach, and her torso looked as if Plane was reacting to physically taking the competition to the next level. Everyone does well in this challenge, but Nymphia was able to win the mini-challenge thanks to her almost real spitting.Ru then admits that the series has changed to RuPaul's Project Runway As the Queens prepare for their third design challenge of the season, Miya hilariously loses her jewelry during a confessional, much to the chagrin of Miya, who blames it on frustration. I don't blame her!We understand that perhaps our competitors need to be prepared for design challenges, but are there multiple design challenges? We must be prepared for all possibilities. drag raceapparently!
As the Queens get to work, Q and Nymphia join them, and I laughed out loud at Saphira's confessional, which comically villainizes their confidence in the design challenge. Saphira is fierce, hilarious, and emotionally intelligent, which makes her a person of interest. I like Nymphia, but I get tired of watching her run around and annoy others while trying to get her ready. Morphine is also starting to get nervous, and she admits that Morphine ignores Nymphia's antics in her confessional. Plasma brought out Plain's immunity potion, and while he didn't directly ask for it from her, he definitely reminded her sister that she didn't care if it was used on her. Plasma-san already seems nervous about taking on a new design challenge, and I'm sure I'll be nervous too.
Dawn brings up Plasma's past statements about wanting to break away from the sycophant she's known for but also show her versatility, and Plasma says she doesn't want to stay on the same path of dressing up like her favorite grandma and singing show tunes. Decide. This was a great decision, and what impressed me most was how Dawn approached this theme with Plasma. She wasn't being rude, but she brought it up so sincerely that Plasma was shocked enough to consider it and even admit that Dawn was right. Eventually, the stress begins to get to the plasma, and Saphira comes in for moral support, and she remains everyone's favorite. Saphira then helps build Miya's look, effectively flying around her workspace and supporting her fellow sisters in any way she can. Everyone continues to prepare for the goth-inspired runway before arriving on the main stage, where Kaia Gerber will be guest judge this week.
A quick overview of the runway:
- Plain Jane isn't a bad look, but I feel like there was an opportunity to bring some sort of wow factor to this outfit, but they didn't quite achieve it. Your makeup is amazing!
- Thanks to Saphira, Miya's dress looks good on her, but I actually don't like that the front of the dress is leather.
- Dawn has her elf ears back and looks great, her costume is beautiful and her makeup is amazing
- There's something about Morphine's look that doesn't really sit well with me, but her makeup is a mess and she gets robbed every time she goes on the runway.
- There are too many things going on with Plasma's appearance, and the wig is lifeless.
- Sapphire looks amazing as always, her makeup is great and her gown is amazing too
- Nymphia brings fashion to the runway again in a way that would probably make Raja very proud
- Q is great at creating looks that are on another level.
Plain waits another week while taking immunity medication, then Lou announces that everyone will be criticized this week. Everyone please stay on stage! Kaia Gerber is a fun guest judge and she really seems to love this show and it shows in all of her critiques. After everyone critiques on the runway, we see that Q is declared the winner, leaving Plasma and Miya in last place.
It feels strange to see queens frantically jumping around the stage hoping for a lip-sync victory, but that's exactly what we're seeing in Plasma this week. The song selection was the Wednesday Dance Tiktok version of Lady Gaga's “Bloody Mary,” and I rolled my eyes as I typed that sentence. Q yells from the background as Miya removes her wig and releases black rose petals, then performs a double back handspring. “I'm not wearing a gown, bitch!'' Miya is such a performer that when she faces an opponent fighting for her own safety in a competition, she lip-syncs and does flips in a mermaid-cut gown. It's so hard to imagine what to do with someone you're starting with. Plasma certainly wasn't terrible, but after this display from Miya, it wouldn't have made sense for her to stay this week. My advice to Mhi'ya is to keep your wig on, even if you're showing petals, especially if you're not wearing anything underneath.
