Hello. From CNN, I'm Ifeoma Dike. He shares five things you need to know on Friday, March 1st.
Let's start with breaking news. President Joe Biden announced that the United States will airlift humanitarian aid and supplies to Gaza. We'll have more on this developing story in the next episode at 6pm ET.
The morning hearing in a classified documents case involving former President Donald Trump and two other defendants ended without the judge setting a trial date. The trial is scheduled to begin in May, but the special prosecutor has requested a July 8 start date, and defense attorneys are considering August and September start dates. Today, the judge took up trial schedules proposed by both sides separately, stressing that there must be room for “flexibility” in the trial schedule.
At least 45 people have been detained across Russia for paying tribute to the late leader Alexei Navalny, according to a monitoring group. Russia's opposition leader was buried in a Moscow cemetery today, two weeks after Russian prison officials announced his death. He died in an Arctic penal colony, and Western leaders, including US President Joe Biden, blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for his death, a charge the Kremlin denies. Navalny's funeral was attended by thousands of people, including the US ambassador to Russia and other diplomats. Navalny's widow did not attend her funeral for safety reasons, but thanked her late husband for “bringing her 26 years of absolute happiness” I posted a video of it. CNN's Clarissa Ward talks about the slogans mourners chanted at the funeral.

Several people sang “Russia without Putin” and many chanted his name. Others said, “Because you were not afraid, we are not afraid.” This is a play on a slogan used by Navalny himself. he said: “I'm not scared, and you don't need to be scared either.”
Deadly wildfires burning in the Texas Panhandle could intensify as strong winds and dry weather are expected this weekend. The fire has already killed at least two people, killed thousands of cattle and scorched more than 1 million acres. The most destructive fire, the Smokehouse Creek Fire, is now the largest wildfire on record in Texas. The Texas A&M Forest Service says only 15% control has been achieved as of this morning. One family told CNN about a ranch near Fritch, Texas that was completely destroyed by fire. Susan and Ronnie Johnson said they had lived there for 20 years.

There were thousands of photos, so this is a memorialization process anyway. I had a lot of antiques.

We don't want to live anywhere else. On the night of the fire, we returned around 10:30 that night. We drove up here through some branches and saw it was gone.
A New York man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a young woman who accidentally walked into his driveway last year. Kevin Monahan was found guilty last month of second-degree murder and other charges. The judge said Mr Monaghan took no responsibility for the consequences of his actions and was likely to do them again. Kaylin Gillis, 20, left a friend's home. Gillis was a passenger in a car that accidentally ended up in Monaghan's driveway. Monaghan then fired shots at the car, killing Gillis a short time later.
The CDC's new isolation guidelines for Covid 19 will be released soon.
The CDC said people who test positive for the coronavirus do not need to quarantine for at least five days. However, the CDC says people infected with the virus should stay home without taking medication for at least 24 hours until their fever subsides or their symptoms improve. The agency's director said most of the United States has some degree of immunity to the coronavirus, and as a result, the country is no longer seeing large waves of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. The CDC also recommends that if you resume activities after quarantine, you should take additional precautions, such as wearing a mask, for the next five days to lower the risk of transmitting the virus, especially to vulnerable populations.
Starting this weekend, I'll be telling you about the good things happening around the world. Every Saturday on this feed or wherever you get your podcasts, we'll be highlighting 5 Good Things.
