GREER, S.C. (WSPA) — The City of Greer plans to invest $100 million in the city.
The initiative is called “For Greer.”
“Four projects have been done in four years for the people of Greer,” said Ira Fitzpatrick, Greer Community and Media Outreach Coordinator.
Over the next four years, the city plans to build the following projects:
- Grove Meadows Road Area Fire Department
- Police and fire training facility on Hood Road
- 500+ parking garage on Depot Street
The fourth project, which will be the largest and most expensive, has not yet been announced.
“The fourth project represents a total of $60 million of the $100 million investment,” Fitzpatrick said.
Business owner Edwin Marini said he is looking forward to seeing what this investment will bring to Greer.
“It's going to be more economic growth for us,” said Marini, owner of The Mason Jar. “I think it's good for the area.”
Marini has owned The Mason Jar in downtown Greer for almost two years. He said he has noticed an increase in foot traffic downtown. He also has more people visiting from out of town, he said.
“North Carolina, Georgia and parts of Tennessee,” Marini said. “We have regular customers who come on the weekends and stay in hotels or Airbnbs down the street. They come on a regular basis.”
With four projects on the horizon, the city hopes they will have a lasting impact across Greer.
“The purpose is to meet the needs of the current population,” Fitzpatrick said. “At the same time, we also recognize that we're growing as a city. We're growing very quickly. We don't want to be left behind in terms of amenities.”
The city will announce the details of the fourth project on March 12th at Victor Gym. Following the announcement, the City Council is scheduled to meet that evening and vote to approve funding for the Four Greer project.
