A “suspicious package” was discovered at the downtown DART station Monday afternoon, causing evacuations and delays, officials said.

A “suspicious package” was discovered at the downtown DART station Monday afternoon, causing evacuations and delays, officials said.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit spokesman Gordon Shuttles said the package was found at the West End station just after 4 p.m. The department added that the evacuation was done “out of an abundance of caution.” The threat also closed roads near the station, just north of the intersection of North Austin Street and Elm Street.
Just before 5:30 p.m., authorities determined the package was not a threat, Shuttles said. Light rail service has resumed, but delays are still possible, he said.
Shuttles said train service at the station, where all four DART lines converge, was suspended while DART and Dallas police investigated. DART provided commuters with buses to various stations while the threat was removed.
The Dallas Police Bomb Squad and DART Police K-9 unit assisted in the investigation, Shuttles said.
No information was available about who dropped the package.
