The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Detroit Pistons 142-124 on Saturday night, winning their second straight game and moving further away from their recent slump. Luka Doncic's performance in that game was nothing short of sensational, even if it was against the bottom-ranked Pistons, who are in the lottery. It was also historic.
Luka Doncic breaks Russell Westbrook's triple-double NBA record as Dallas Mavericks beat Pistons
Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks with 39 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes on the floor. He shot 13-of-24 on field goals, knocked down four triples, and added three steals and two blocks. He committed six turnovers, which can be forgiven considering the amount of damage he caused the Pistons.
According to Stat Muse, Doncic is the first player in NBA history to record a 30-point triple-double in six consecutive games. In other words, Doncic is a great player.
“This shows you the level he's playing at right now,” Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said of Doncic after the game (h/t ESPN).
“He knows he can score the ball, he can find his teammates, he can rebound the ball at the end,” Kidd added.
Doncic is truly on the rise. He is averaging 36.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 11.5 assists over the past six games. He also shot the ball extremely well over the same span, knocking down his 51.6 percent of his shots from the field.
Mavs are on the rise again
The Dallas Mavericks have lost three straight games since the start of March, but they appear to have come to terms with the situation again after defeating the Miami Heat and Pistons in consecutive games. Doncic could add to that hot streak when the Mavericks visit the Chicago Bulls in the Windy City this Monday.
