Frisco, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys currently have two in-house free agents off their roster, with Tony Pollard being the first player on a new contract with the Tennessee Titans. The second player is Dorrance Armstrong, a talented raw defensive lineman who has reportedly agreed to terms with the Washington Commanders, according to multiple reports.
Armstrong will be reunited with former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who accepted the head coaching role in the nation's capital this offseason.
By joining the NFC East rivals, Armstrong is guaranteed to play against the Cowboys at least twice each season going forward.
A fourth-round pick out of Kansas in 2018, Armstrong began his career with the Cowboys as a rotational edge rusher rather than finishing it.
His snap count ballooned to second only to DeMarcus Lawrence. [ultimately] Micah Parsons too. And he has become one of the most talented young pass rushers in the league.
Armstrong has weathered two changes in head coach, two changes in special teams coordinator, and the storm of three, yes three, different defensive coordinators to become the most impactful player on both defense and special teams. He became one of the players and was able to maintain that position even now.
He had 21 sacks over the past three seasons, totaling 60 tackles and three fumble recoveries, plus more QB pressures. He achieved this despite only making 11 starts out of 47 games during that period.
At just 26 years old, negotiating his third NFL contract and with several options (e.g. Washington's Dan Quinn, Seattle's Aden Daade), Armstrong is one of the league's best rotational pass rushers. Not only that, but he is also a decisive player. “Glue Guy'' was on the defensive.
This is the main reason Quinn came back to Dallas to convince Armstrong.
