Creators get paid for every ad-free episode played on the app
Technology company Auddia, developer of the faidr audio app, has announced a pay-per-play beta program for podcasters and networks.
“The program treats podcast playback and downloads like streaming music, with content owners receiving payments directly based on the number of streams they receive,” the company said in a press release.
CEO Michael Lawless said “the economics are simply broken” for many podcasters. “Advertising revenue can be uneven, and unlike the top shows out there, the vast majority of podcasts, even seemingly popular ones, make enough money to survive. Advertisements, on the other hand, Networks, ad servers, and ad salespeople are taking a significant portion of their total revenue from podcast advertising.”
Lawless said the beta program will pay creators directly for each play. “They keep the majority of the revenue from their material.”
This program is targeted at listeners who skip most ads and do not subscribe to exclusive or ad-free feeds at the program or network level.
“Partners in Audidia's pay-per-play program will download the entire episode, including ads, but listeners will be given control to automatically fast-forward through ad breaks, making it easier for podcasters to You don’t have to do anything technically difficult,” the company said.
“When a subscriber plays a partner’s episode, Audidia tracks the activity and pays based on the podcast’s current per-play revenue and an agreed-upon per-play rate based on the average CPM.”
Partner podcast episodes are delivered using Audidia's Seamless Play technology. “Users are provided with episodes where the app automatically fast-forwards through ad breaks without the need for end-users to manually fast-forward. Each play or download is recorded and partners are compensated monthly at an agreed rate. I will.”
The company said it will also release a seek forward feature that allows users to fast forward to the next identified segment of content. “This feature will launch on faidr as a beta test in our next major release this year.”
