Welcome to “The Red Seat Podcast” episode number 309. This week, Jake Deveraux, Keaton DeLocher and Bob Osgood tackle part two of his team-by-team MLB previews, with a focus on the National League. You can listen to Part 1 of their tour around the American League here.
After getting a quick update on Lucas Giolito's injury, we preview the National League East by looking at the strength of the Braves and Phillies, a division in which the Phillies have won the playoffs two years in a row. It started. Can the Marlins repeat last year's success with Yuri Perez? The Mets have an exorbitant payroll, but they won 75 games last year and don't have a huge pitching staff. When will the Nationals embrace a youth movement and call up potential stallions?
In the Central Division, the division is on the hunt to find a pitching staff worthy of praise. The Brewers won the division by nine games a year ago, but lost coach Craig Counsell (to a division rival), traded Corbin Burnes and were without closer Devin Williams for half the season. Become. The Cubs narrowly missed out on making the playoffs, but their rotation is in jeopardy. The Reds are a top three entertainment team on MLB TV, but can their young pitcher step up? The Cardinals added Sonny Gray to a 71-win team, and the Pirates will likely need another year before their elite prospect comes into his own.
The Dodgers are the favorites to win the West Division and have the most wins in baseball. Will it finally be produced for October? The Diamondbacks won the pennant a year ago, but will need to improve on their 84-win record to make a comeback. Fortunately, they have an emerging young hitter and arm team. The Padres have made more significant moves (both in and out) than any other team in baseball, and with new manager Mike Shildt and recently added Dylan Cies, they could be the right pairing in the clubhouse this season. The Giants' roster may not jump off the page, but they have sneaky additions in Jung-Hoo Lee and Jorge Soler, and they hope to acquire the best rookie pitcher in baseball in Kyle Harrison. And the Rockies…well, they should be bad again.
