Rivian (RIVN) owners will now have access to Tesla (TSLA)'s Supercharger network, adding another automaker to Tesla's charging business, the EV maker confirmed in a blog post.
Starting today at 12:00 PM ET, Rivian owners can connect by connecting a free Rivian-issued adapter or using a certified NACS to CCS1 (Combined Charging Standard) adapter. You will be able to use Tesla Superchargers with NACS (North American Charging Standard) plugs. Charge your Rivian EV. Rivian stock rose in intraday trading following the announcement and is now up more than 3%.
Similar to Tesla and Ford's deal, Rivian owners will now have access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network, the largest DC fast charging system with over 15,000 chargers.
“Compatible Superchargers will appear in Rivian Navigation as you plan your trip, and charger speed and availability information will be listed,” the company said. “'Plug and charge' with automatic billing is also possible. Just plug the charger into the vehicle and charging will begin automatically without starting the app,” the company said.
Rivian announced a charging deal with Tesla last year, but the electric SUV maker had yet to make an official announcement about when it would go into effect.
Rivian owners and EV watchers were alerted to the move by an InsideEVs report pointing to X users. @RyanHoover's video shows his Rivian EV communicating with and charging a Tesla Supercharger. As Rivian stated in the announcement, the user said that as long as a payment method is set up in his Rivian mobile app used to access the charging location, the session will start automatically. Masu.
Last month, Ford (F) became the first automaker to access the Tesla Supercharger network. Ford is issuing free adapters designed and engineered by Tesla for use on the Supercharger network.
If Rivian EV owners can't wait to receive their free charger, they can purchase adapters like this one that are compatible with Tesla's V3 and V4 Supercharger DC fast chargers.
Note that Rivian's next R2 and R3 vehicles coming in 2026 will come standard with Tesla NACS inlet plugs, and R1 vehicles will have NACS inlets in 2025.
