The Dallas Cowboys have already lost several key defensive players this offseason, and another could be on the way soon.
According to ESPN's Brady Henderson,Cowboys defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins is attracting interest from the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
And Hankins himself said on social media on Saturday, “Free agency news coming soon…”
Hankins, who turns 32 at the end of this month, has been a cornerstone of the Cowboys' defense since joining in 2022. Last season, the veteran defensive tackle started all 14 games he played in and totaled 27 tackles, including two tackles for a loss and three sacks.
A 10-year NFL veteran, Hankins has been a consistent force for several teams. Before he came to Dallas, he played for the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts and Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders traded him to the Cowboys for a late-round pick before the 2022 trade deadline.
CowboysSI.com reported that Dallas hopes to re-sign him. But in addition to the money involved, the chance to sign a multi-year deal elsewhere could also be attractive, although the Cowboys don't appear to have any intention of making an offer.
Hankins has been signed to one-year deals in each of the past three offseasons, the last two of which were worth about $1.3 million. If the Seahawks can get him for a similar amount, it should be a bargain for them.
Meanwhile, Hankins could join the list of Cowboys defenders leaving this offseason. Dorrance Armstrong and Dante Fowler both joined Dan Quinn and the rival Washington Commanders, and Neville Gallimore signed with the Miami Dolphins.
