It's no secret by now that Michael Gallup's time with the Dallas Cowboys is potentially coming to an end. Due to the ACL injury he suffered, his lack of production was not commensurate with his salary, and he hasn't looked like the same receiver since.
That would create some sort of job opening behind Brandin Cooks at WR3 (unless you think Cooks is a WR2). As the Cowboys held formal and informal meetings at the scouting combine, a USC receiver revealed his love for the organization.
Brenden, the son of San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice, spoke privately with Dallas and expressed his admiration for the current NFC East champion.
“I think this franchise is great,” Rice said at the scouting combine. “They've got CeeDee Lamb, who's a great receiver for generations, and they've got Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones, and he's going to do them right. … Just to be a part of that organization.” But it’s great.”
Rice had a breakout year at USC alongside Caleb Williams, setting career highs in receptions (45), yards (791) and touchdowns (12), averaging a solid 17.6 yards per reception. Recorded.
What's appealing to Dallas is Rice's physicality and his deep threat given his ability to get downfield in a hurry. He fights every ball 50-50 and often comes out on top, so the play never ends, even if the throw isn't right for him.
Rice (6-2, 212) is good at making tight, contested catches with strong hands, and if he can get separation, his elusiveness in open space will help coach Mike McCarthy match him. Since there is a possibility of a good match, there is a possibility that you can become a YAC merchant. “Texas Coast Offense”.
The Cowboys also have Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks on the strength chart. Therefore, the incoming rookies have a long climb ahead of them. However, Prescott often gets the ball out quickly and in a timely manner in 2023, so Rice could be a useful addition to the Cowboys' offense as a second- or third-day selection.
