In 1979, Satish Gupta was looking for a business school, one that was willing to teach across oceans and continents – to teach at an international level. The University of Dallas was that school. Since its founding, UD has been committed to preparing students to be principled and ethical leaders and effective and responsible managers. With expert faculty, a diverse student body, and a curriculum designed for the ever-changing business environment, students are prepared for careers in the United States and around the world.
For Satish, the University of Dallas, located in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, has become home. And a year later, Yasmin (who was not yet a Gupta member at that time) joined Satish in college.
“UD was one of the first schools in the United States to understand the importance of international business and trade,” Yasmin Gupta recalls. “The program was vibrant with international students. It was like stepping into our own global village here in Irving.”
It didn't take Satish and Yasmin long to put their business education into practice. While in school, they began developing a business plan for what would become SB International. More than 30 years later, SB International is a leading manufacturer, converter and distributor of steel pipe and tubing products for the oil and gas industry in the United States and Canada.
In 2014, a generous gift from the Guptas led to the construction of state-of-the-art SB Hall, home to their namesake College of Business. Currently, Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business has over 17,000 alumni and currently has nearly 1,000 graduate and undergraduate students.
“Our dream is for this university to become a global meeting place for diversity, where students from all parts of the world learn from each other and live in harmony,” Yasmin Gupta said at the inauguration of SB Hall. That's what we can do.” “We hope this beautiful new environment will foster the same loving global village that we experienced as students many years ago.”
