The Dallas Cowboys lost one of their primary offensive weapons on Monday, but that doesn't mean they won't continue to fight.
Running back Tony Pollard has signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Tennessee Titans, ending his five-year stint with the Stars.
However, the Cowboys tried to bring Pollard back. The Athletic It was reported that Dallas was “targeting” the 26-year-old ball carrier until the end.
The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings also expressed interest.
For Pollard, the deciding factor was money. The Athletic Pollard said he received the higher salary, a change from last week's report that he was willing to take a pay cut to stay in the Lone Star State.
Instead, Pollard will go to Nashville and try to fill a Derrick Henry-sized hole in the backfield.
Pollard rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 15 points on the ground in each of the past two years. He started all 17 games for the Cowboys this season and had 55 receptions, the third most on the team.
Dallas is starting to look elsewhere in the running back market as owner Jerry Jones and staff are rumored to be linking Henry to former New York Giants star Saquon Barkley.
The Cowboys are also making a decision on whether running back Rico Doodle will remain. He and Pollard were the last two healthy ball carriers listed on Dallas' active roster entering free agency.
Pollard was not able to track him down. The Cowboys are currently figuring out what's next in the backfield, but America's team isn't short on options just yet.
