FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly “interested” in signing either Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants or Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans when NFL free agency opens soon. …However, there is a huge “what if” in that “report”.
ESPN reported Monday, on the eve of the start of the legal tampering period, that the Cowboys could be interested in Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry if the price drops.
Frankly, this is a clever way to create an unlikely story. That's because not only is Berkeley and Henry the headline-grabbing duo, but there's also a third headline-worthy “name.”
Captain Obvious.
In fact, I can attest to the fact that one of the “could/if” aspects of ESPN's argument can be eliminated right now. The Cowboys wouldn't be interested in this level of upgrade *if* the asking price on the contract. Shrink…
cowboys Absolutely, would be actively interested in signing Barkley. Unless another team meets his projected contract value (estimated at $12 million annually over a three-year deal).

Unfortunately, so do most other teams. Also, unfortunately, the running back market is full of talent, which may ultimately help Dallas sign someone (like re-signing Tony Pollard for 600 APY). (Think in millions of dollars. Sources told CowboysSI.com that such a move is in fact the most important consideration) – Barkley is 27 years old and doesn't seem like he will suffer much. And Henry, 30, a two-time rushing champion, has no intention of doing so.
So, is Dallas “interested” in Barkley or Henry's Barkley? Similarly, as we've joked for years, we're “interested in Halle Berry, a date with the Cowboys.” Yes, there is. yes. ''
