Jerry Jones on CeeDee Lamb's value amid contract extension rumors – Nick Harris, Dallascowboys.com
The Dallas Cowboys' priority is developing their star wide receiver.
Jones has frequently mentioned that from a salary cap perspective, a large contract extension is equivalent to paying multiple players instead, and the value needs to match. In Lamb's case, finding that exact value may be difficult for both sides to agree on, but Jones knows it's what he wants to build.
“He's been there and is as valuable as anyone else,” Jones said Tuesday. “But the precious thing of having to let go of four or five players to get him is something you have to come to terms with. That's what I'm saying. Easier said than done. .”
Once the transaction is completed, it begins to be used to extract value from the transaction. Coming off a season in which Lamb set franchise records for receptions (135) and receiving yards (1,749), that usage is undeniable in negotiations.
“Whoever has CeeDee, I hope it's us, they're going to use him,” Jones said. “You have to. You have to get that kind of mileage out of him. What has he shown us? That he's capable of carrying that load.” That. We have to focus.”
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott expected to play on current contract in 2024 – Kevin Patra, NFL.com
The Cowboys and their franchise quarterback know where things stand coming into the season.
The Cowboys and Prescott have a mutual understanding that there will be no adjustments to his contract entering the 2024 season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, citing a person informed of the plans.
It was believed that the Cowboys would need to extend Prescott's contract this offseason in order to lower their massive salary cap number. Ultimately, the club and QB decided it was best to finalize the deal and work things out on the other side of the season.
Earlier this month, the Cowboys converted a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus, removing $4 million from Prescott's salary cap number. That figure remains a staggering $55,445,000. The club also added a further two years until 2028.
Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract in 2021 that includes a no-trade and no-tag clause. With no extension scheduled, Prescott is headed toward free agency in 2025. Even if Dallas doesn't end up signing the QB to an extension, he will still count $40.46 million against the 2025 salary cap.
In 2021, Prescott owned all the leverage after Dallas used the back-to-back franchise tag on QBs. As a result, he was able to negotiate a shorter four-year contract than the club's desired five-year contract. Given his massive cap number, Prescott still has a huge impact. Instead of bowing to that power, the Cowboys seem content to let things work out.
NFL Power Rankings 2024: Which teams improved in free agency? – ESPN
The Cowboys are barely holding onto a top-10 spot in the power rankings after a disappointing free agency.

Unobtrusive movements: Lunda Wells names Al Harris as assistant coach
The Cowboys haven't had any notable results in free agency, but the fact that Wells (tight ends coach) and Harris (secondary coach) prevented them from interviewing with other teams this offseason is a sign of personal growth for both coaches. It was best for Dallas, if not better.
Coach Wells has done a great job overseeing tight ends, first with Dalton Schultz, who put up career numbers before leaving in 2023, and then with Jake Ferguson. Harris watched corners Trevon Diggs and Daron Brand lead the NFL in interceptions and earn Pro Bowl berths in 2021 and 2023. — Todd Archer
Cowboys 2024 Draft: LB Edgerrin Cooper Scouting Report – Mike Poland, Boys Blog
If the Cowboys draft a linebacker, “Edge” Cooper is a name to keep an eye on.
history:
Cooper, a graduate of Covington High School, was a four-star recruit and ranked as the ninth-best linebacker in his class. He was scheduled to attend Texas A&M in 2020.
His freshman season was slow in terms of defensive snaps, but he played 140 snaps on special teams. The following year, Cooper's role increased as a rotational linebacker, and he played 339 snaps on defense. He played primarily as a middle linebacker and had seven pressures and one sack as a pass rusher. He had 58 tackles and six tackles for loss in run defense, and two pass breakups and one interception in pass coverage.
Good things:
A consistent playmaker with a long track record of production.
Elite speed and burst are best seen when playing spy or chasing ball carriers to the outside.
Very good agility and change of direction skills
Shows quick reactions and very good play recognition
Explosiveness and speed allow him to easily penetrate the backfield to reach the ball carrier or complete a sack
bad person:
His body has room for further volume gain, but this will reduce the skill and speed of his smooth movements, and he will lose his special charm.
They overrun the play because they go full speed when patience is needed. Smart or agile runners can get around him well.
He plays quite upright and can be knocked off the ball carrier in a tackle.
