Is Gallup gone?
according to Multiple reports late Saturday night, unsurprisingly, the Cowboys gave Michael Gallup permission to seek a trade, effectively ending his time in Dallas. Gallup is expected to be taken off the roster as early as next week, and it seems highly unlikely that he will be traded in exchange for any kind or real value.
The 2018 third-round draft pick has seen a significant drop in production since suffering a torn ACL in the final game of the 2021 regular season. Last season, he had career lows in yards (418) and touchdowns (2) and the second fewest catches (34).
It's no surprise that Gallup's time is up, considering he's hitting the 2024 cap ($13.8 million per Spotrac). Late last season, Gallup was unable to regain his explosiveness and athleticism that made him one of quarterback Dak Prescott's favorite targets, so his snaps were primarily played by second-year receiver Jalen. Crossed over to Tolbert.
His best season was 2019, when he started 12 games and had 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. But last season, he disappeared in the shadow of CeeDee Lamb's record year and the rise of Brandin Cooks and tight end Jake Ferguson.
Owner Jerry Jones eerily dodged questions about Gallup at last week's NFL Scouting Combine.
“There are no decisions I would like to discuss at this time,” Jones said. “That's something we'll go over with him. I can't say anything unless he's involved. We need to sit down and have a good discussion with him before we talk about what we're going to do with him. ”
Last season, Gallup had two or fewer receptions per game in 11 games and had zero receptions twice. He caught six passes for 103 yards in Dallas' blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Game in January.
