Frisco – Just know this is coming. While there were numerous opportunities to team up with Dalvin Cook, the Dallas Cowboys weren't interested at any point last year. That wasn't the case when the Vikings dumped him. That wasn't the case when the Jets pursued him. Not when the Jets dangled him at the trade deadline. That wasn't the case when the Jets dumped him.
But today is a new (dark?) day. And suddenly, “Dalvin to Dallas” has fresh legs (though maybe not Dalvin himself).
Cook, coming back from a faded Pro Bowl, is now reportedly interested in signing with the Cowboys. …At about the same time, another fading star, his old friend Ezekiel Elliott, finds his hat thrown into the ring. (He may also include JK Dobbins' name in the pile as he is undergoing rehabilitation.
Is Mr. Cook “low risk, high reward”…or no reward at all?
Top players who entered the market like Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Derrick Henry, and Austin Ekeler had long since found homes elsewhere (at the same time some media outlets suggested Dallas and The Cowboys have acknowledged that. Tier 4 search. Tony Pollard is gone. There are backers on the roster here. No one has Cook's credentials…the former Vikings All-Pro who looked gassed out with the Jets last year.
Can the Cowboys acquire players on team-friendly deals and bring back quality running backs? I don't know about “quality”, but is it a “team-friendly deal”?
In the current “Blow It Up!” vibe here at The Star…what else?
