What do you think about the new kickoff rules? Do you think players like Cavonte Turpin will have more of a chance to impact the game, or do you think teams will continue to try to get touchbacks as much as possible??– Justin Oswalt/West Haven, Utah**
Nick Eatman: I like that. That was my first thought. Because I really didn't like the downward trend in kickoff. As someone who has never run in for an NFL kickoff or tried to block a downed opponent, I can say that. The collision was clearly serious, which is why the league sought to remove it from the game. But now they seem to have found a compromise. I think you need to get over how weird it looks. The kicker is basically just hanging out by himself 30-35 yards away from everyone. But once you catch the ball, I think it becomes fun and exciting again. And there will be a lot of strategy involved. It's going to depend on the returners coming back there and what kind of offensive line is going to be on the field. Maybe you don't want to give up the ball at the 30-yard line. Or maybe a line drive kick could roll into the end zone. That touchback appears to be only 20 yards for him. There are a lot of options here, but I commend the NFL for looking at other leagues and finding a better way to make this play. From the Cowboys' standpoint, yeah, I'd like to see Kavonte Turpin in the open field a little more.
