This week, the Big 12 held a mass pro day.and Cowboys quarterback trey lance played an important role in helping John Rhys Plumley Script his pitching sessions for NFL scouts.
Plumlee is a former Central Florida star who transferred from Orlando to Orlando, where he excelled at both schools. But he's not one of the high-profile quarterbacks eligible for next month's NFL Draft. That's why his pro day was so important. Enter Lance.
For the first time ever, the Big 12 held a mass production day at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. More than 130 prospects, including Plumlee, attended, giving the event a similar feel to the NFL Scouting Combine, albeit on a smaller scale. This stadium is where the Cowboys play their games in the fall.
Plumlee and Lance worked out together in Dallas this offseason. Of course, Lance will likely be the Cowboys' second-team quarterback once minicamp begins. Meanwhile, he thinks Plumlee should be given a chance by some team.
Lance worked with the rookie on Thursday, armed with a sheet detailing every pitch Plumlee makes for scouts. NFL Network's Rhett Lewis took the photo and shared it on X.
Lance competes to be Cowboys QB2, while Plumlee wants an NFL chance
Both quarterbacks have something to prove in the coming weeks. Of course, Plumlee wants to be drafted. He's a true two-way quarterback. At Ole Miss, he broke the school's freshman rushing record with 1,023 yards and 12 touchdowns. Of course, this was also a school record for running the ball as a quarterback. He regressed on the depth chart the next two seasons before transferring to Central Florida. In two seasons in Orlando, he threw for 5,838 yards and 34 touchdowns against 19 interceptions. He also added 1,367 rushing yards with 16 touchdowns.
Lance, on the other hand, is probably getting used to life in Dallas. The 49ers used the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to select a quarterback. However, he ultimately lost his starting spot due to his ankle injury and play. Brock Purdy. In a surprise move, the 49ers traded him to the Cowboys as training camp ended last August.
Plumlee and Lance both train with Jeff Christianson. His most famous quarterback clients are: patrick mahomes.
And Lance's actions have impressed Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
“The arrow is really pointing up.” Jones told reporters. As for Lance. “He exceeded my expectations as a person and as a worker.”
The Cowboys owner added, “He's exactly what we planned and expected him to be.'' When he made the pick, he knew he was going to be paid a bonus right now. That was part of the same decision. That has been reinforced by his time with the team and the person he is, potentially the player himself. ”
