Frisco, Texas — There was a familiar face re-signed to the Dallas Cowboys offensive line this offseason: Chuma Edoga. The two sides have agreed to terms on a new contract that will keep him at North Texas through the 2024 season, assuming he can earn a roster spot through upcoming training camp, training camp and the preseason.
Edoga joined the Cowboys roster in free agency a year ago, and to his credit, he had a forgettable training camp that was uneventful in the early days without Tyron Smith at left tackle. It turned into a high-quality start.
But that wasn't the case late in the season, especially when you look at what he put on film in Week 16's close loss to the Dolphins.
That said, Edga also played in 35 percent of the offensive snaps last season, meaning he's tested and familiar on offense as well as playing alongside All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith. do.
What head coach Mike McCarthy did shortly after that was pretty telling about what Edga's future might or might not be in Dallas — he signed La'el Collins as insurance. Now in his sixth year in the league, Edga is working on building consistency that could ultimately lead to job security.
He will face a potential decision by the Cowboys to address the tackle position after losing Tyron Smith to the New York Jets in this year's free agency fray.
