Last fall, Google announced that it would retire its Podcasts platform at some point in 2024, and just recently, Google Podcasts was buried in Google's graveyard. It's just the next in a string of platforms and projects that Google has killed in recent years, but former users will be left wondering what's next.

Understood. We'd be stressed too if our go-to podcast platform disappeared and we couldn't get our weekly podcasts like Up in the Bluesheet or Virtual Reality.

Luckily, there are plenty of podcast apps you can try to fill the gap left by Google Podcasts. We may not even know we have access to our favorite Amazon Music.

What is Amazon Music?

Amazon Music is a music streaming platform built into Amazon, similar to Spotify. There are three plans available and it is designed for everyone.

As the name suggests, Amazon Music Free is a free music platform for everyone, and you don't even need a credit card to get started. When it comes to music, only select playlists can be streamed for free. You cannot select any song to listen to.

However, Amazon Music's entire podcast library is available on Amazon Music Free. However, there is a catch. Most of the available podcasts are ad-supported, meaning you'll have to sit through unskippable ads throughout each episode.

The second tier of Amazon Music is Prime, which, as the name suggests, is tied to your Amazon Prime membership. This is automatically included with all Prime members, but some Prime members may not even know they have access to this benefit.

Listening to music just got a little easier with Amazon Music Prime. All of the service's music is streaming and ad-free, but like Spotify's free plan, you can only listen to it in shuffle with limited skips.

If you're just as interested in the music streaming part of Amazon Music as you are in podcasts, Amazon Music Unlimited is for you. This introduces unlimited skips and the ability to play anything you want on the service, along with the same ad-free podcasts.
