Schoch factor
On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, Stephen Schoch joins Virginia Tech's Carson DeMartini and Arkansas' Will McEntire to share the secret to their success this season and how they got into college baseball in the first place.
We often see people doing well at the college level and we tend to think, “Yeah, they're at the top of their careers. Of course they were always good and everyone knew about them!” . Well, that doesn't happen often in college baseball, but to be honest, this is where I find the type of player I like. The suspects are those who “don't have the tools on their desks.” Because in my opinion the tool is overrated. To me, basing your recruiting efforts solely on tools is lazy. Because the tools are visible to everyone and anyone can do them. If you want to be an elite recruiter, you need to be the type of person who can see the intangibles: courage. Then you put together a team of guys who were told they weren't good enough or couldn't make it? They're going to perform like crazy. Carson DeMartini and Will McIntyre are two guys with these intangible talents and I would have them on my team any day.
