FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys must have a plan, right?
After talking about going “all in” on 2024 earlier in the offseason, the team has been noticeably quiet so far approaching the NFL Draft. Now, with all the talk about what the Cowboys have never done, talk of trading quarterback Dak Prescott has surfaced, causing confusion in Cowboys Nation.
Prescott will enter 2024 without a contract beyond this season. That has raised concerns among Duck fans about his future in Dallas. However, NFL analyst and schlock jock Craig Carton addressed unverifiable rumors about Prescott being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Well, there's smoke outside of Dallas…Rumors are starting to get out on sports talk radio in Dallas that Dak Prescott will be traded. And the storyline is, let's be clear. , unconfirmed. Rumor has it that the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders have had talks in which the Raiders would send four picks and possibly Gardner Minshew to Dallas in order to acquire Dak Prescott's expiring contract. There is.”
Is there any truth to this? Carton is wrong (as usual). A USA Today article speculated about what Dallas could get in a fantasy trade. that's it. (We cover this concept in “What Can Dallas Really Get for the Ducks?”) This is not “Dallas Sports Radio Rumors”…although the show's hosts may have mentioned his USA Today article.
By the way, this also applies to the “Dak to New England” rumor, but this is just a media thought.
There is no “smoke in the air” other than speculation rooted in Dallas' lethargy and indecision. Perhaps Dallas would be better off trading Dak than losing him as a free agent in 2025.
Even if the Cowboys aren't at all sure Prescott is a long-term fit in Dallas, and they clearly are, his trade value probably won't be any higher than it is now. Will a team in need of a starting quarterback be willing to overpay in the negotiation battle for Prescott's services? If the Cowboys make a real effort to explore that, we'll let Cowboys Nation know.
