Dozens of police and fire trucks responded to the school in southeast Dallas just after 10:30 a.m. Friday.
DALLAS – Multiple law enforcement agencies responded Friday morning to a reported shooting at Wilmer Hutchins High School in southeast Dallas, Dallas Fire and Rescue officials said.
Police officials told WFAA that one student was injured and a suspect in the incident was taken into custody around 11 a.m. The incident was first reported just after 10:30 a.m., Dallas Fire officials said.
Officials told WFAA that the incident occurred in the school's “G” building, and the suspect was taken into custody after running toward the school's football field.
Officials told WFAA that the injured student was expected to be okay.
At 11:15 a.m., Dallas Independent School District officials announced in a statement that “all students and team members are safe” at the school.
“Police are on scene to ensure the safety of the school,” Dallas ISD officials said in a statement. “Currently, we are restricting access to the campus, so please refrain from visiting the campus.”
Wilmer Hutchins High School, part of Dallas ISD, is located on Langdon Road near Interstate 45 and Interstate 20.
Dallas Fire officials confirmed that crews were dispatched to the school at 10:36 a.m. Friday. Dallas Police Department officials also confirmed they were responding to the scene, but deferred further information to Dallas Independent School District Police.
Several Dallas Fire and Rescue ambulances and fire trucks could be seen in the school parking lot, as well as several police cars surrounding the campus.
Parents outside the school described to WFAA the “state of shock” among parents who responded to the school after hearing reports of a shooting. A parent told WFAA that her daughter called and told her there was a shooter at the school.
“I was on my way,” the man said. “I got up here as soon as I could.”
