What used to be commonplace turned into a big week.
First up is the San Diego County Republican Party. The once corporate giant lost its chairman after an infighting over fellow Republican Andrew Hayes and Carl DeMaio, who is running for state representative.
Mr. DeMaio served one term on the San Diego City Council in 2008. He has since grown his brand as a polarizing conservative activist and radio talk show host, although he has run unsuccessfully for a number of seats.
His opponent, Hayes, who endorsed the Republican Party in the primary, is a Lakeside school board member and an aide to state Sen. Brian Jones.
Now, despite Mr. DeMaio's efforts to drag Democrats into the runoff, the runoff will be a Republican-on-Republican showdown.
