Scotty Scheffler and his wife Meredith Scheffler live in Dallas, Texas. During the 2024 Masters, the couple's home attracted a lot of attention as Meredith is pregnant with the couple's first child.
Attention is now focused on how Scheffler might return to Japan while keeping an eye on the baby. Scheffler has been open about his plans to bolt Masters once he receives word that Meredith will go into labor. In case you're wondering, the flight from Augusta to Dallas is estimated to be just over two and a half hours.
Scheffler was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, but grew up in Dallas. He was a standout golfer at Highland Park High School before attending the University of Texas. The two met as middle school students in the Dallas area, and even though Scheffler is on the PGA Tour, he still calls the area home.
“When we moved to Dallas, it was pretty uncomfortable for my parents,” Scheffler told Golf Digest in a February 2022 interview. “Basically, they were uprooted from everything they knew to come here, and they didn’t know anyone except their mother’s boss.
“…Dallas quickly became home for us as kids and we couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Almost all of her family lives here. Almost all of my family lives here. So Dallas is home for us.”
Scottie Scheffler says wife Meredith's pregnancy: 'It could happen at any time'
Scheffler has no plans to leave the Masters, but he has been candid about his decision to withdraw from the sport's biggest tournament if his wife gives birth. Meredith has become a regular on the PGA Tour, but is rooting for Scheffler from her home because of her impending pregnancy.
“I can't say I'm too concerned about her going into labor,” Scheffler said at an April 11 press conference. She said: 'I didn't see any early signs, but pregnancy is strange – it can happen at any time. [We have] I keep the lines of communication open so she can reach out to me if she needs to.
“And yes, I'm ready to leave now.”
Couples rely on their common Christian faith
Scheffler also spoke candidly about how the couple's shared Christian faith has helped keep their family at the center of the spotlight. On the morning of the 2022 Masters, Meredith pointed to this belief to calm golfers' nerves at Augusta.
“I cried like a baby this morning,” Scheffler explained to reporters on April 10, 2022, after winning the Masters. “I was so stressed out. I didn't know what to do.
“I was sitting there talking to Meredith and I was like, 'I don't think I'm ready for this. I'm not ready yet.' I don’t feel like I’m done,” I say. And I just felt overwhelmed,” Scheffler added.
“So she said to me, 'Who are you to say you're not ready?' Who am I to say I know what's best for my life? 'So what we talked about is God is in control, the Lord is leading me, and if today is my time, it's my time.'
