The warm, dry, sunny weather that continued through the weekend will likely end late Monday as storms are expected to hit Dallas-Fort Worth.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said thunderstorms were expected to develop across West Texas late Monday afternoon and move east into North Texas by late in the day, bringing rain overnight into Tuesday morning.
Some overnight storms could strengthen in North Texas, especially west of I-35. The storm could weaken as it crosses Interstate 35 and then strengthen again toward East Texas.
The rain should end in Dallas-Fort Worth by Tuesday afternoon, according to the forecast.
Temperatures should rise into the mid 80s to low 90s by Wednesday when the wet weather subsides, but the heat won't last long. The Bureau of Meteorology predicted that a cold front will move in from Thursday into Friday, bringing temperatures down and the chance of thunderstorms increasing.
Texas power grid operator ERCOT warned residents that rising temperatures this week will increase demand across the grid, creating a power emergency. The state of emergency began Tuesday afternoon and is expected to last until Wednesday.
ERCOT said in a notice Friday that it plans to postpone or cancel planned generator outages across the state to shore up the power grid during periods of high demand and stress.
