GRAND RAPIDS, MI — An Ohio-based true crime podcast duo wants to shine a light on unsolved murders with their show “True Crime Garage.”
Most recently, hosts Nick and Patrick Edwards dug into the November 2022 murder of Cain Coronado.
Coronado was shot and killed while riding his bicycle on Indian Mounds Drive in Wyoming, with few witnesses around at the time.
With no new evidence available to the police, the podcast brothers decided to shed new light on the case.
“Someone locally contacted us and said this was an incident that needed a little more attention,” Nick said. “We need to get the word out beyond Grand Rapids, Michigan and Wyoming to get the right ears and the right eyes on this case.”
This nearly hour-long podcast episode, which has already been viewed 4,000 times on YouTube, explored the details of the case and the available evidence.
“We try to decide the length of the episode based on the information in the case and the evidence in the case. In this case, we didn't have to go on too much,” Patrick said.
The podcast has more than 1,000 episodes discussing cases, and mugshots of suspects were also used as episode thumbnails. That suspect description and the early 2000s gray sedan police are looking for stand out to the two.
“I think both are somewhat unique and distinct characteristics, especially at the time,” Nick said. “I think there's hope from that perspective. You know, there are eyewitness statements, and police are releasing this information through sketches.”
Cody Coronado, Cain's aunt, spoke with us recently and shared that her mother, Cain's grandmother Tonya, died last July without knowing who killed her grandson. He said he was grateful for the new attention he received.
“The new podcast is about bringing that to the forefront again, because my mom passed away and she's not here to promote it anymore,” Cody said.
“I don't think people understand that the victims are never alone,” Patrick said. “Family sacrificed, his friends sacrificed, people who will never meet him, people who will never have his life changed.”
