CeeDee Lamb wasn't the only star Cowboys player to miss the start of voluntary practice on Monday.
So was Micah Parsons. There is an important contrast in his reasoning.
While contract dissatisfaction keeps Lamb away from the team, Parsons has another deterrent. A source close to the hybrid defensive end said: dallas morning news Parsons said he is focused on a personalized training program outside of the facility, determined to prepare for the 2024 season in the way he sees best.
Along the same lines, Parsons was sidelined at this stage of the 2023 offseason.
He entered training camp in great shape and virtually destroyed practice in Oxnard, California. In other words, no one in the Cowboys building has any reason to question how Parsons is working away from the club.
Player participation in non-mandatory workout programs is generally not noteworthy until minicamp June 4-6. But their approach to this stage of the offseason is noteworthy, considering quarterbacks Dak Prescott, Lamb and Parsons are all set to sign big-name contract extensions around the same time.
Lamb, who is in the middle of his contract year, is out of the team as he searches for a contract extension.
Prescott, who is in his contract year, attended Monday.
Like last year, Parsons will be sidelined for reasons unrelated to finances. The Cowboys have him under contractual control through the 2025 season.
