LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kawhi Leonard has yet to practice 5-on-5 with the Los Angeles Clippers as they prepare to face the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs.
Leonard has not played since March 31 due to inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee. The best-of-seven series begins Sunday in Los Angeles.
“I'm getting him ready to be on the court,” coach Tyronn Lue said Wednesday. “We just take it day by day. He's getting better, so let's see how much he continues to progress.”
Lue apologized to the media for his apparent frustration with repeated questions about Leonard's health. The team isn't allowing Leonard to speak for himself.
Teammate Norman Powell demurred when asked how Leonard was doing after his limited participation in practice Tuesday.
“That's not up to me to answer, dude,” he said. “We have talked to the organization and coaches about Kawhi’s situation.”
Leonard played in 68 games during the regular season, the most since he played in 74 games with the San Antonio Spurs in 2016-17 and the most since joining the Clippers four years ago. . The All-Star forward averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
