Watch our special Earth Day 2024 episode to accelerate your path to a circular economy. Sustainability in Your Year Mitch Ratcliffe spoke at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's REMADE conference focused on the circular economy, held at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC, earlier this month. Share the lessons learned. Scientists and business leaders came together to discuss and share their research on enabling a circular economy. REMADE focuses on reducing waste and building circular systems in industries that account for 30.2% of human annual CO2 emissions. The conference also has a decisive slant towards recycling, especially industrialization on a large scale so that consumers no longer need to learn about materials. Please separate at home for better recycling.
As you hear, it requires huge investments, but this is a form of technological utopianism that promises solutions, so that simple people do not have to think about it. Many of the scientific presentations at the event explored advanced recycling techniques for plastics, textiles and metals, industrial decarbonization techniques and ways to design products to be easier to recycle. These important and compelling initiatives will move us toward a “make, reclaim, remake” approach to the products humans rely on every day.
Take a few minutes this Earth Day to learn more about the potential benefits of a circular economy.
