LOS ANGELES (AP) — A rusty Kawhi Leonard had 15 points and seven rebounds in his return to the Los Angeles Clippers, but they lost 96-93 to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of their Western Conference playoff series. could not prevent defeat.
The Mavs tied the series on Tuesday night.
Leonard played 35 minutes in his first game since March 31st. He returned after a three-week absence due to inflammation in his right knee.
“I felt good,” he said. “We still have games to play and we still have time to improve. Keep trying to get our rhythm back.”
Leonard had no one-minute limit. Instead, Tyronn Lue measured how his superstar forward was feeling throughout. Leonard did not participate in contact practice leading up to the playoffs.
“I've been feeling really good the last few days,” he said.
The Clippers defeated the Mavs 109-97 in Game 1 on Sunday, and Leonard watched from the bench.
“It's great to have 'No. 2' back,” teammate Paul George said of Leonard's jersey number. “He's going to find his rhythm, and we're going to find our rhythm around him.”
Game 3 is on Friday night, so it will take a few days to get back into rhythm.
